Membrane technologies for Industrial wastewater treatment

Industrial wastewater is a by-product from the manufacturing of commercial products. Whether it is from the food we eat, the beverages we drink, the clothes we wear or the paper and chemical products we use, water is required for nearly every step of production across a multitude of industries.

Much industrial wastewater is discharged without treatment to open watercourses, reducing the quality of larger volumes of water Virtually all goods-producing activities generate pollutants as unwanted by-products.

The MBR is a suspended growth-activated sludge system which combines the use of biological processes and membrane technology to treat wastewater and provide organic and suspended solids removal instead of secondary clarifiers. Use of MBR offers the possibility to overcome a lot of problems in activated sludge processes which are mostly due to tertiary treatment. It represents a decisive step forward concerning effluent quality by delivering a hygienically pure effluent and by exhibiting a very high operational reliability. Advanced MBR wastewater treatment technology is being successfully applied at an ever-increasing number of locations around the world.

MBRs are ideal for the treatment of wastewater streams with high concentrations of organics, solids, fat, oil, and grease. The membranes retain the biomass and mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) within the bioreactor, thus producing effluent that is free of particles, bacteria and viruses.

MBRs remove between 96-99% of COD, compared to 95% in conventional activated sludge processes.
